Get my free quote →Shopping for a home charger and confused by the price spread? You’re not alone. Home EV charger prices in the Philippines range from around ₱15,000 for a basic wall unit to ₱70,000 for a fully loaded smart charger — and that’s before installation, which adds quoted after a free site assessment for a standard home setup. This guide breaks down what each price tier actually buys you, so you can pick the right charger for your car, your home, and your budget.
The Three Types of Home Chargers
1. Basic 7kW Wall Charger — ₱15,000–₱50,000
This is the workhorse of Philippine home charging. A 7kW single-phase wall charger with a Type 2 connector (the AC standard here) will fully charge most EVs in around 5–8 hours overnight. Plug in when you get home, wake up to a full battery.
Within this range, price differences come down to build quality, weatherproofing (IP rating), cable length, brand reputation, and warranty support. At the lower end you’ll find generic imported units; at the upper end, established brands with local warranty backing.
Best for: most homeowners. If you charge overnight and don’t need app features, a quality basic unit does the job perfectly.
2. Smart Charger — ₱40,000–₱70,000
Smart chargers add connectivity: app control, charging schedules, energy monitoring, and sometimes load management that automatically throttles charging when the rest of your house is drawing heavy power.
Are the extra features worth it? For some households, genuinely yes — scheduling and monitoring are nice, and load management can matter if your panel capacity is tight. For others, it’s a premium you’ll never fully use. We weigh this properly in Are Smart EV Chargers Worth It?
Best for: tech-inclined owners, households with tight electrical capacity, or anyone who wants to track exactly how much kuryente their EV uses.
3. Portable / Granny Charger — often included with the car
The granny charger plugs into a regular 220V household outlet and delivers around 2–3kW — the slowest option by far. It’s genuinely useful as a backup or travel charger, but as your primary everyday solution it means long charge times and continuous load on an outlet that wasn’t designed for it.
Most EVs come with one in the trunk, so think of it as free insurance rather than something to buy. Our granny charger vs wall charger comparison covers when each makes sense.
Don’t Forget: Installation Is a Separate Budget Line
Whatever charger you choose, it needs to be installed properly — and this is where many buyers under-budget. A standard home installation costs quoted after a free site assessment for labor and standard materials. That covers:
- Site assessment and electrical load evaluation
- A dedicated circuit from your panel (required by the Philippine Electrical Code)
- Proper breaker and RCD protection
- PEC-compliant cable, conduit, and weatherproof fittings
- Mounting, commissioning, safety testing, and after-sales support
Complex jobs — panel upgrades, long cable runs, condo installations — are quoted after a free site assessment, because no honest installer can price those sight unseen. The full breakdown lives in our pillar guide: EV Charger Installation Cost in the Philippines.
Total Budget Scenarios
Putting units and installation together:
| Setup | Charger Unit | Installation | Total Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charger bundled with your EV | ₱0 | quoted after a free site assessment | quoted after a free site assessment |
| Basic 7kW wall charger | ₱15,000–₱50,000 | quoted after a free site assessment | ₱40,000–₱85,000 |
| Smart charger | ₱40,000–₱70,000 | quoted after a free site assessment | ₱65,000–₱105,000 |
| Granny charger only (not recommended long-term) | usually included | ₱0 | ₱0 |
One note on that last row: “free” charging from a household outlet still deserves an electrician’s check. Hours of continuous 2–3kW draw through an aging outlet or shared circuit is a real fire risk in older homes.
What to Check Before You Buy
A few things that matter more than the spec sheet suggests:
- Connector type. The Philippines uses Type 2 for AC charging. Virtually every EV sold here — BYD, MG, GAC, Tesla included — charges via Type 2 at home. Confirm anyway before buying.
- Single-phase compatibility. Most Filipino homes have single-phase 220V service, which pairs with a 7kW charger. Three-phase units exist but need three-phase supply — most residences don’t have it.
- IP rating. Mounting outdoors? Look for a solid ingress protection rating so rain and dust aren’t a problem.
- Local warranty and support. A cheap unit from an overseas seller becomes expensive the day it fails with no local service. If you’re tempted by marketplace deals, read our guide on buying EV chargers from Lazada and Shopee first.
- Cable length. Standard cables are around 5 meters. Think about where your car’s charge port sits when parked.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a home EV charger in the Philippines?
Basic 7kW wall chargers run roughly ₱15,000–₱50,000, smart chargers ₱40,000–₱70,000. Installation is separate at quoted after a free site assessment for a standard home setup.
Is a more expensive charger faster?
Not necessarily. Most home chargers are 7kW regardless of price — your car’s onboard charger also caps AC charging speed. Extra money mostly buys smart features, build quality, and warranty, not speed.
Do I really need professional installation?
Yes. A wall charger requires a dedicated circuit, proper breaker, and RCD protection installed by a licensed electrician per the Philippine Electrical Code. It also protects your warranty and your home.
Which charger is best for a BYD?
Many BYD models come with a bundled 7kW wall charger, so you may not need to buy one at all — just installation. See our BYD wall charger installation guide for specifics.
