XPENG Philippines: What We Know (and Don’t) Before the Q3 Launch

Another Chinese EV brand is coming — but this one is arriving a little differently.

XPENG has confirmed it will begin operations in the Philippines within the third quarter of 2026, launching with two “Smart EV” models. The company hasn’t formally named them, but its teaser points strongly to the L03 — the crossover known as the Mona in China — and the X9 premium electric MPV.

What’s actually confirmed

Three things. First, the Q3 timing. Second, two models at launch. Third — and this is the interesting one — XPENG Philippines will be a direct subsidiary of the parent company, not a third-party distributor. That’s possible because the EVIDA law (RA 11697) opens the EV sector to 100% foreign equity. A factory-owned operation usually means tighter control over pricing, parts, and software updates than a distributorship — though it also means the brand starts with zero local dealer experience.

What’s not announced: Philippine pricing, specifications, dealer locations, service network, and charging partners. Walang presyo, walang showroom pa. Anyone quoting you a price today is guessing.

Why the L03 matters for this market

The L03 was developed as a global car from day one — unveiled in Munich in July, headed for 65 markets. It’s sized between a Toyota RAV4 and a Tesla Model Y, which puts it in the same fight as the BYD Sealion, MG S5 EV, and other compact Chinese crossovers already here. In China it starts around RMB 123,800 (roughly ₱970,000 before taxes and margins — do not expect that number here).

The spec worth watching is the powertrain split. The battery-electric version is rated up to 520 km. But in selected markets XPENG also offers a range-extender version — a small petrol generator on board, good for over 1,000 km of total range. For buyers outside Metro Manila, where public charging is still thin, a range extender addresses the exact hesitation that keeps people in petrol cars. Whether the Philippines gets that variant is unconfirmed.

What it means for your charging setup

Nothing exotic. XPENG’s global models charge on the same standards as every other EV sold here — Type 2 for AC home charging, CCS2 for DC fast charging. If you end up buying one, a 7kW home wallbox will almost certainly be the right setup, same as for a BYD or an MG. The X9’s 800-volt architecture only matters at DC fast-charging stations; at home it charges like everything else.

Our honest take

More competition in the ₱1.5–2M crossover space is good for buyers, full stop. But don’t reserve anything on the strength of a teaser. The questions that decide whether an EV brand is a good buy in the Philippines are boring ones: How many service centers? Parts inventory? Warranty terms? What happens to the software features if the local operation struggles? XPENG’s direct-subsidiary structure is promising on paper — it means the parent company’s money is on the line — but the brand hasn’t sold a single car here yet. Let the first owners find the rough edges.
