Not sure what your install will cost?
Answer five quick questions and we will send you a written quote — usually within one working day.
Get my free quote →You’ve decided on a wallbox — good call. Now comes the question nobody explains well: what does the BYD wall charger installation process actually look like? How long will crews be in your house? Will they tear up walls? Do you need to be home?
We install these every week, so here’s the honest, step-by-step walkthrough — from the first site visit to the moment your app shows “charging scheduled.” Spoiler: for a standard home, the whole install typically takes about half a day.
Step 1: The Site Assessment (Before Install Day)
Everything starts with a site assessment — ours is free. A technician visits your home and checks four things:
- Your electrical panel. Is there capacity for a dedicated 7kW load? Is there space for a new breaker? What condition is the panel in?
- Your electrical load. We evaluate what your household already draws — aircon, appliances, water heater — to confirm the charger can be added safely without overloading your service.
- The cable route. How far is the panel from where the charger will mount? Longer runs mean more materials and sometimes a different wire gauge.
- The mounting location. Where does your charge port sit when parked? Is the wall suitable? Is the spot protected from direct rain? (More on placement in Where to Mount Your EV Wall Charger.)
This visit is why we can quote accurately. A standard install runs quoted after a free site assessment for labor and standard materials (the charger unit is priced separately); complex jobs — panel upgrades, long cable runs, condo installs — get a specific quote after this assessment. Curious what the assessment itself covers in detail? See our EV charger site assessment guide.
Step 2: Materials and Scheduling
Once you approve the quote, we prepare PEC-compliant materials sized for your specific install: correctly rated cable for the run length, a dedicated breaker, an RCD (residual current device) for shock protection, conduit, and mounting hardware. Then we schedule the install day — coordinating with your building admin first if you’re in a condo or gated village.
Step 3: Install Day — Mounting and Wiring
Here’s the sequence on the day itself:
- Power safety first. The relevant circuits are de-energized before any wiring work begins.
- Mounting the wallbox. The unit is fixed securely to your wall at a practical height — high enough to keep connectors off the floor, positioned so the cable comfortably reaches your BYD’s charge port.
- Running the dedicated circuit. This is the heart of the job. Your wallbox gets its own circuit straight from the panel — it never shares with other outlets or appliances. Cable runs through proper conduit along the assessed route.
- Breaker and RCD installation. A dedicated breaker protects the circuit from overload; the RCD protects people from electrical faults. Both are required for a safe, Philippine Electrical Code-compliant install, and all work is done by a licensed electrician.
- Connections and torque checks. Terminations at the panel and the charger are completed and verified — loose connections are the classic cause of heat buildup, so this step gets real attention.
For a standard home layout, steps 1–5 typically take a few hours.
Step 4: Commissioning — Testing With Your Actual Car
This is the step that separates a full-scope installation from a “wires connected, good luck” job. Commissioning means:
- Verifying voltage and polarity at the charger
- Testing the RCD trips correctly
- Plugging in your BYD and running a live charging session — confirming the car and charger negotiate properly, the charge rate is as expected, and the session starts and stops cleanly
- Checking for abnormal heat at connections under load
We don’t consider a job done until your actual car has charged from the new unit.
Step 5: App Setup and Handover
Most BYD wallbox units include Wi-Fi and app connectivity. Before we leave, we help you:
- Connect the charger to your home Wi-Fi
- Pair the companion app
- Set up scheduled charging — most owners schedule overnight sessions to charge at home rates, around around ₱15/kWh on Meralco residential (rates change monthly), versus ₱20–₱38/kWh at public stations
Then a quick walkthrough: how to start and stop a charge, what the indicator lights mean, and who to call if anything acts up. After-sales support is part of the package, hindi ‘yung “goodbye na” after payment.
What to Prepare Before the Installers Arrive
A little prep makes install day smooth:
- Clear the work area — panel access and the mounting wall both free of stored items
- Have your car home (or arrange for it) — commissioning needs the actual vehicle
- Wi-Fi password ready for app setup
- Condo dwellers: secure building admin approval and any required work permits in advance — we can help with the paperwork; see our condo EV charger installation guide
- Someone available to decide — occasionally a small on-site choice comes up (exact mounting height, conduit path), and it’s fastest when the owner or a representative can answer
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the whole installation take?
For a standard home install, typically about half a day. Complex jobs involving panel work or long cable runs can take longer — you’ll know from the assessment quote.
Do I need to be home during the install?
Ideally yes, or a trusted representative — especially for commissioning with your car and the app handover.
Will the installation damage my walls?
Standard installs use surface-mounted conduit, which is tidy and requires no chasing into walls. If you prefer concealed wiring, that’s a discussion at the assessment stage.
Can any electrician install a BYD wallbox?
It must be a licensed electrician working to Philippine Electrical Code standards, with a dedicated breaker and RCD. EV charger experience matters for commissioning — an installer who has never paired a charger with a car may leave you troubleshooting alone.
